Wow traffic was really backed up even for Podunk. I think it was rather dangerous the way traffic was congested.

Yeah I was evacuated from Ocean Center too, I'm in the Theater on the Edge program.
I wonder if we will be able to get back in for the evening shift.

They've got officers just before the RCMP Station on McBride redirecting traffic east and west, an off duty on 6th W and Borden redirecting traffic towards Roosevelt. Officers blocking 2nd Ave and 5th Street, 3rd Ave and 5th Street, Fulton and 5th Avenue W!!! I almost shed a tear, it appears our tiny town has arrived LOL. Our own bomb threat ROFL. I heard it may be BC Wide though?

How would someone do a BC wide bomb threat anyways?
"hey yeah, theres a bomb in a package and I don't know where it is now."
Oh well, got off work early.

The bomb threat was apparently at DFO, the Post office is in that building.
According to The Mix five oclock news, bomb threats were called into DFO offices up and down the coast, with the local one supposed to have gone off at 3:30.
Since the building is still standing, we can gather it was a hoax I guess.
Made for a nice exercise though, particularly helpful if we ever have a tsunami I guess. Though some of the folks directing traffic might need a refresher course, there was some serious confusion in a few spots....
Though I suspect they were stretched a little thin, if everyone would have been directing traffic who would be looking for the supposed bomb?

Zellers was evacuated and closed around 4:25 or so... and they told the rest of the mall to evacuate at 5pm. We were told we could go back in 4 hours to do our closing procedures as it was that important for us to get out.
I'm glad the RCMP had everything under control traffic wise once we were done... downtown looked like an early Sunday morning with barely anyone around.

Does it have anything to do with the huge helicopter flying around?

Could be Jack Bauer is aboard.. Though to be serious, if as a precaution they needed a bomb squad person they would have to bring one in from out of town, so a helicopter out of Comox would make the most sense I guess. Now what we need to know is who called in the threats?

I'm just in the process of trying to sell a few of my shots to the National Papers but here's a LOW res sample of a few shots I got off before being removed from the scene. I'll give access to high res and a larger number of them on my website later on Thursday. www.flickr.com/photos/zpaperboyz[attachments over a year old automatically deleted]

Lots of rumours out there but one of my media sources has confirmation the threat was on 3 locations in Prince Rupert. My contacts at the Sun news desk hadn't heard about it being a BC wide threat so I would ignore that rumour.
